At Footfalls & Heartbeats the team has worked diligently for many years refining and evolving our smart textile sensor system. As we evolve, we started to note that most of the early application areas involve movement, or lack of it in some form.
Movement defines the human condition. “We move therefore we are” to destroy Rene Descartes brilliant philosophical insight is a fundamental truth of almost all humans. In the modern age a lack of movement is one of the defining drivers of ill health over lifetimes.
Movement is one of the four (4) pillars of a healthy life, although it is better summed up as activity. During those activities humans interact with textiles. Textiles are a cultural constant almost unparalleled in society. Ergo, textiles see your movement, they interact with your activity, and they do it invisibly, comfortably and privately.
At Footfalls we were set up to Do Good. To create technology that is available and affordable by as many humans as possible. That technology is now embedded in the textiles you interact with every day. At Footfalls if it moves, we can measure it.
So what?
To redress the health and social inequalities in the world we can now bring affordable, private and proactive sensor systems to those that need them most. The aging in our society deserve care and attention in the privacy of their own homes. Not only is that socially and culturally beneficial it saves healthcare systems millions. Providing remote rehabilitation monitoring to those after surgery or neurological injury is now within the grasp of communities worldwide.
Counter to this argument we can also help address the sleep disruption epidemic by measuring the movement or lack of while you slumber. Out technology doesn’t shame or track, it provides insights that allow you the human to stay in control.
So, we measure movement to help you to be the healthiest version of yourself, silently, gently and with your privacy and protection at the heart of everything we do.
